My Approach

bride and groom exit stone barn in Cheltenham after wedding ceremony

+ how I work.

You will be pleased to know I don’t use cliches, work from lists, bark orders or copy other photographers shots from Pinterest. This is your day not a re-run of someone else’s. From morning until night I am totally switched on and observing, not in a creepy way but I’m looking for natural moments such as a flower girl sneaking away to eat some chips, Aunt Doris busting some crazy shapes on the dance floor or the father of the bride tearing up seeing his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time….. you get the idea!

I go with the flow of the day and never dictate how your wedding should be but am always on hand to offer any guidance and reassurance.

It’s your day....do it your way!!

+ it all starts with the hair

My first contact with you on the day will normally be meeting you with no make up on, hair in rollers and wearing fluffy slippers, you realise I’m talking about you and not me! Yep I’ve seen it all so don’t worry! :-)

Great storytelling is documenting these special moments with your besties at the start of the day. My focus is to capture all of the nervous excitement in the room and for that unique atmosphere to shine through in my images.

“Kevin did an awesome job at our wedding. The photos are amazing and we couldn’t thank him enough for the job he did. Would highly recommend to anyone!”

+ those portraits & what to expect

Nothing is overly posed, just a couple of loved up people taking a stroll with a new friend tagging along!

You will be pleased to know I don’t use cliches, work from lists, bark orders or copy other photographers shots from Pinterest. This is your day not a re-run of someone else’s.

I won’t be setting up lights or asking you to stand like a couple of statues for minutes on end. It really is a collaboration between us which basically means we’re on the same page and understand each other! My main focus is that the day is authentic!

When it comes to the 15 minutes of portraits we will have a walk around the grounds, which a lot of couples tell me is a great opportunity to have a break and take stock about what’s actually just happened! You’ve only gone and bloody done it..eek!

+ family group shots

Let’s face it when it comes to family photographs at weddings we’ve all been there. In most cases we’re stood there for what seems like an eternity with forced grins on our faces. Well thankfully times have changed. I keep things simple and fast moving. I don’t dictate who to have in your photos or bark orders.

If you want to hug your best friend, fold your arms, jump on each others backs or do a breakdance I’m not going to stop you! It really is your picture so I go with the flow! I always suggest up to 8 is a good number. You can rest assured that you will never hear me telling anyone to “say cheese” or for the guys to hold the bride horizontal in their arms!

+ the speeches and dance floor shenanigans!

The bit everyone looks forward to and the time of the day where legends are made! For me the evening wedding reception is not a time to switch off. The speeches are often a time for truly memorable emotive images.

Yes I can be found moving my hips whilst looking through the lens on the dance floor, but it’s definitely a time where I’m ready for the unexpected! The off the cuff jokes, impromptu games, the belly laughing, embarrassed looks and emotional heartfelt tears!

During speeches I very rarely use flash, instead using any available light to capture the mood. It would also be very distracting if the photographer acts like the paparazzi and fires of flash after flash! Speeches are hard enough to remember! The dance floor allows me to get close, it’s the only way! with pops off fill flash or maybe even some shutter drag to convey the movement.
